Soffit and Fascia – everyone has heard these words, but what are they?

Soffit is the material that covers the overhang of a roof; while fascia is the front cap. Fascia is sometimes mistakenly called trim, for it is often the same colour as the border, or trim, of windows and doors. Soffit helps with the ventilation of your attic while preventing moisture and insects from entering your home. Similarly, fascia protects the rafters of your roof and supports the shingles and gutters.

Together, soffit and fascia are an essential tag-team duo that both beautifies and protects your home. Therefore, if you notice missing sections or signs of deterioration either to the soffit and fascia themselves or inside your attic through the presence of mould, insects, or fungus it is probably a good time to replace or repair these vital parts of your home.
